Mitsooz: The Art of the Narrative
Snapshot:
Mitsooz is a curated space for intentional collectors to discover original, story-driven works from emerging artists and studios. Offering a selection of original paintings, sculptures, and photography, we believe that an object without its narrative is just an object, but a work with its “why” intact is a legacy. We are dedicated to ensuring this narrative remains preserved and honored as it transitions from the artist’s direct studio into the collector’s space.
The 15-Degree Pivot
In the first iteration of Mitsooz, I took a step away from the mass-produced and leaned into artisan-crafted home decor. It was a move in the right direction, but I soon realized a vital layer was still missing: the direct narrative. To truly honor a piece, I needed the answers from the artist.
I made what I call “a 15-degree pivot” to get to the root of the “why.” By shifting my focus to original art – paintings, sculptures, and photography – I am able to connect directly with the creators. These layers of story change how we see a piece. Once you hear the narrative directly from the source, the work becomes more than an object; it becomes a legacy.
The Ethics of Narrative
My obsession with storytelling is a cultural inheritance. Coming from Haiti, the world’s first independent Black republic and the only nation established through a successful slave revolt, I have seen firsthand how the world can rewrite a success story.
I saw a country that taught the world the meaning of hope and funded the freedom of other nations, yet the global narrative often reduced us to a story of poverty. It taught me a vital lesson: If you do not hold your own narrative, the world will rewrite it for you.
This is why I consider myself a “Narrative Holder.” I am drawn to stories that reclaim the voices of those usually spoken about in the third person: the people who were never given the microphone to tell their own truth. This is why I value “reclaimed narratives” like James by Percival Everett, Circe by Madeline Miller, Cleopatra by Stacy Schiff, and Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. Much like the characters in Fahrenheit 451 who memorized books to keep history alive, I hold on to the soul of an artist’s work until I can pass that narrative on to an intentional collector.
Soul Over Scale
I have no desire for Mitsooz to become a massive, soul-less platform where artists sit on a screen like thumbnails in a catalog. That takes away from the very thing I am trying to protect. My mission is to bring in people of intention. I want to champion the artist and their story so deeply that their essence is felt even when they aren’t in the room.
To ensure the highest level of integrity, each artist provides a Certificate of Authenticity for their work. Furthermore, all pieces are sent via direct studio fulfillment, meaning your art comes straight from the hands and the space where it was created.
The Ask
Building a brand centered on narrative and purpose isn’t a solo mission. To keep Mitsooz intentional and impactful, I am looking for the right connections. If you’d like to support this journey, here is how:
Connect me with Artists: I am looking for creators with a distinct style, a clear story, and a powerful “why.” If you know an artist who has a unique voice that needs to be championed, I want to hear their story.
Introduce Intentional Collectors: I am looking for people who don’t just buy art to fill a space, but who invest in original works because they value the human narrative behind them.
Fuel the Growth: As I scale this vision, I am looking for networking opportunities, grants, and funding that align with supporting underrepresented artists and story-driven entrepreneurship.
Share the Vision: Sometimes the biggest move starts with a simple introduction. If you know a gallery, a platform, or a person who believes in “soul over scale,” please send them my way.
