The Solo Journey
Tysheda Williams (Ty) and I have both been in the entrepreneurial space for a long time, and we’ve recognized an undeniable truth:
Entrepreneurship is, in many ways, a solo journey.
Even when you are surrounded by the best village and the most incredible support, the internal weight of a vision is yours alone to carry. There are moments when you feel like you’re the only one flailing, navigating a specific vertical or a quiet struggle that no one else can quite see.
The reality is that you aren’t the only one, and you aren’t failing or flailing. Often, you just need a boost of motivation from someone who has walked a similar path or faced a similar hurdle and that “person” is usually… everyone.
The Non-Linear Reality
We also believe that success, however you define it, is never linear. In fact, if your journey is a straight line up, you should probably worry; when the drop finally comes, it will be intense. True growth is a series of peaks, valleys, and pivots.
Authentic Ambitions was born from our desire to normalize this “messy middle.” On our show, we invite the public into the behind-the-scenes building of impactful brands – from ideation to actuality.
In partnership with my cofounder/cohost, Tysheda Williams, we discuss the highs, the lows, and everything in between. We don’t just celebrate the final win; we feature founders sharing the raw details of their journey so that other leaders can find their footing and realize they don’t have to build in isolation. When we stop pretending success is a straight line, we finally make room for the genuine connections that move us forward.
In My Mind: The Absurdity of the Aim
I truly believe that entrepreneurship is the ultimate exercise in absurdism.
To wake up every day and choose to build something out of nothing – not knowing how the day will unfold or if the effort will yield the expected result – requires a specific kind of faith.
I often think of Camus’ Sisyphus. Like him, we push our rocks up the mountain daily. If you are truly passionate about what you are building, you do it happily because you see the vision so clearly that it becomes your only aim. You feel the “messy in-betweens,” and certainly have days where you go THROUGH it, but you know the goal is bigger than the temporary struggle (even when it feels permanent).
On this mountain, some choose to get off the ride. Others continue, adapt, and pivot.
I want to be clear: none of these choices are wrong.
Whether you hold the rock or decide to let it go, the bravery lies in the fact that you stepped onto the mountain in the first place.
